Model Something Challenge #1: Gamecube Controller

Model Something is a miniature project I set for myself to get better at asset production. I sometimes find myself focusing on minor details at the expense of the larger goal. That's why I've decided to take on these smaller tasks to get better at staying goal focused and production oriented.

I've decided to start with something simple, something I had lying around in my room that I could put in my hands and feel the dimensions of. I've always loved the Gamecube controller, it's one of the most 'toy' like controllers that ever existed but I like that it stands out. Makes me a bit nostalgic for that generation.

I started with a high and low poly so I could bake down some maps, unfortunately I was only able to get normals out because I didn't have enough memory to bake lighting. I'm getting a new machine pretty soon, really looking forward to not having to do the heavy lifting on my work PC.

The texturing was pretty basic, but I did have to quickly sketch out a lot of the lettering detail on my own without fonts. Got that done in about an hour and a half.

Here's the final result. Rendered with Marmoset, thanks for the recommendation Brendan George!
